Hacía ya mucho tiempo... It's been a while...

He estado sin escribir durante un tiempo porque se me olvidó el ordenador en Houston y no pude actualizar el blog. Estoy en la recta final de mi primer semestre. Las asignaturas han sido más complicadas de lo que yo creía pero se me ha dado bastante bien. Hasta ahora he hecho Fonética, Fonología, Gramática, y ahora estoy con Antropología cultural. El semestre que viene va a ser más durillo porque voy a tener más asignaturas y más complicadas, pero eso ya vendrá después de Navidad.

Desde la última vez que escribí han pasado muchas cosas:

1. Me dieron un trabajo en la biblioteca de la universidad. Solo son 7 horas semanales pero menos es nada.

2. Me he apuntado al gimnasio.

3. He encontrado una iglesia en Dallas.

4. He decidido que quiero irme a Nigeria al acabar el máster. (Sí, Nigeria).

5. He contactado con misioneros y organizaciones con la que trabajar al terminar aquí.

6. Y algunas cosas más que seguro no me acuerdo...

Algunos datos sobre Nigeria:

Está más o menos cerca de España! Es el país con más idiomas del continente africano, más de 500. En la actualidad, solamente unos 20 de ellos poseen una traducción completa de la Biblia.

Todavía falta mucho camino por recorrer y muchas cosas por pasar. Algunas puertas ya se van abriendo pero falta mucho por hacer... esto solo acaba de empezar.

I left my laptop in Houston so I have not been able to update my blog for a while. I am almost done with my first semester here in Dallas. It has been harder than I thought I would be, but I did pretty well. So far I have taken Phonetics, Phonology, Grammar, and I am currently taking Cultural Anthropology. I think next semester will be a little bit harder because I will have more classes and they will be more difficult as well. That will come after Christmas anyway.

Lots of things have happened since I last updated this:

1. I got a job on campus at the library. I only work 7 hours a week but I am thankful for those hours.

2. I am going to the gym.

3. I found a church in Dallas.

4. I have decided where to go after I finish my masters. Nigeria! (Yes, Nigeria.)

5. I have talked to missionaries and organizations I will be able to work with when I finish my studies.

6. And a few more things that I do not remember right now...

Some facts about Nigeria:

It is relatively close to Spain! Nigeria has over 500 languages. It is one of the greatest concentrations of linguistic diversity in the world. Currently, out of these languages, about 20 of them have a complete Bible Translation.

There is still a long way to go and many things are yet to happen. Some doors seem to be opening but there is still a lot to do... This is just the beginning.

Todo listo * Everything Ready

Ya tengo el visado, billetes de avión, etc. Todo está listo.

Éste es mi último fin de semana en España. El domingo por la noche me voy a Madrid para coger el avión que me llevará a Houston.

Y todo empezó a encajar......And Everything Fell into Place

¡Hola a todos!

Como ya sabéis, el mes que viene me marcharé a Dallas (EE.UU.) a hacer un máster en Traducción Bíblica. Para ser más exacto, el nombre del máster es Exégesis Bíblica y Lingüística. En principio estaré allí unos dos años y medio, quizá tres. Los estudios de lingüística y traducción los cursaré en el Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics y la parte teológica en el Seminario Teológico de Dallas. 

El máster que voy a realizar está diseñado para misioneros que estén interesados en la traducción de la Biblia, especialmente a lenguas minoritarias.  

¿Por qué voy a hacer esto?

Porque un tercio de las comunidades lingüísticas del mundo no tienen ni siquiera un pasaje de la Biblia en su lengua y porque creo que es necesario que todo el mundo tenga la oportunidad de escuchar y responder al mensaje de Dios en su propia lengua.

La verdad es que todo empieza a encajar... He visto la mano de Dios en todo este largo proceso que me está guiando hasta Dallas. No sé qué me espera, qué habrá después de Dallas, ni siquiera sé cómo voy a pagar los estudios o dónde voy a dormir el mes que viene. Sólo sé con quién voy... me voy con Jesucristo y dondequiera que vaya iré yo.

Os dejo por hoy y os pido que oréis para que Dios siga abriendo puertas y me muestre su dirección y ayuda en este tiempo.

Hello everyone!

Next month I will be leaving for Dallas, TX to do my masters degree in Bible Translation. To be more precise, the program is called Master of Arts in Bible Exegesis and Linguistics. I will be there for two and a half years, maybe three. I will take the linguistics and translation courses at the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics and the Bible courses at Dallas Theological Seminary.

This program is designed for missionaries interested in translating the Bible, especially into minority languages.

Why am I doing this?

Because one-third of the world’s language communities do not even have one passage of the Bible in their language. I believe it is necessary that all peoples have the opportunity to hear and respond to God’s message in their own language.

Everything is now falling into place... I've seen God taking control of this whole process that is leading me to Dallas. I do not know what God will bring next, what He has in store for me after Dallas, in fact I do not even know how I am going to pay for my studies or where I am going to sleep next month. I just know who I am going with... I am going with Jesus Christ and wherever He goes I will go.
